Word on the Decline
If Northern Star is to simplify the portfolio and give Elliott something to smile about, Kanowna Belle looks a clear candidate.
The strategic value is the roaster. KB can treat refractory, arsenic-rich ore, and infrastructure like that is exceptionally hard (impossible) to replicate today.
That makes Genesis a very logical buyer. Its 1.7Moz Aphrodite deposit is high arsenic and Kanowna Belle has long been thought of as the eventual processing route for the undeveloped project. There’s a road over the top to shift but the size of the prize is worth it.
But whether the long term home is within the Genesis portfolio, we aren’t certain. The Bardoc asset SpinCo could still be on the cards, it’s a much more attractive vehicle with KB processing route tied up though.
