Word on the Decline
Metals X has lobbed an unsolicited 15p cash proposal for First Tin. Hardly a bolt from the blue.
The longstanding suspicion (we have written here in the past) was that Metals X would move on whichever of First Tin or Elementos got permitted first.
Brett Smith did little to disguise his intentions on a September podcast. He described the two projects as "neck and neck" on permitting, while outlining Metals X's ambitions to consolidate the next generation of tin producers.
Sitting alongside him, First Tin CEO Bill Scotting reckoned Taronga's approval was just "a few weeks" away.
Three weeks later, Metals X has made its move. Only the permit hasn't arrived just yet.
At 15p, Metals X may be looking to anchor its first bid right before Taronga’s imminent catalyst.
UK Takeover laws require it to firm up within 28 days. We struggle to see a scenario where the 29.9% shareholder walks away. A 15p deal would only mean ~A$100m for the 70% MLX doesn’t own already.
