A message from Titan Recruitment

What's an empty seat costing you?

An empty executive chair at the head of a mining company boardroom table, blueprints and a hard hat on the table, the open-pit mine visible through the windows and a wall screen showing a videocall

An unfilled technical role doesn't just sit empty, it slows the whole project down.

Titan Recruitment has spent almost 30 years sourcing, mobilising and placing engineering and technical professionals across Australia's mining sector.

Word on the Decline

  • One rumour doing the rounds at Beaver Creek had IGO circling Q2 Metals and its giant Cisco spodumene deposit in James Bay.

  • There is one obvious complication. IGO and Tianqi have said their TLEA joint venture is the “exclusive vehicle for lithium investments outside China,” hence the Pioneer Dome bid being made through TLEA. But a Tianqi-controlled bidder for a Quebec lithium asset would likely be a roadblock under the Investment Canada Act.

  • If the rumour has legs, the angle may be IGO seeking a waiver to go it alone. Tianqi has no obligation to budge, so the real question is what could IGO offer to make it worth Tianqi's while.

  • And this is where the cupboard gets pretty bare. IGO cannot horse-trade Greenbushes offtake because it is not party to the agreement, while Kwinana hardly screams bargaining chip. That leaves Cisco offtake as the obvious sweetener. The catch is that swapping Chinese ownership for Chinese offtake may not look all that different to Ottawa.
