Word on the Decline
The Barrick soap opera gets better. Bloomberg’s column is well worth the read and reports Thornton and Bristow’s relationship finally imploded amid strategic disagreements, missed targets and a fiery Savoy Hotel board meeting.
Last year we heard that the breaking point in the relationship came when both needed Barrick’s private jet at the same time… One in China, the other in Mali.
Shame on shareholders for missing the obvious. If Barrick’s two most senior men couldn’t work out how to share a corporate jet, what chance did anyone think Barrick had of sharing Nevada with Newmont?
