Word on the Decline

  • Canyon is shaping up as a neat case study in how minority shareholders can get squeezed in capital-hungry mining developers. A2MP/EEA already owns 56%, and is bidding 5c cash, a seemingly absurd 42% discount to Canyon’s pre-bid 8.7c close. Its justification? Minim Martap’s economics have deteriorated.

  • Canyon still needs substantial capital to get Minim Martap producing, while A2MP is effectively the marginal funder.

  • History is littered with similar outcomes, from PolyMet to ERA, where repeated funding needs steadily strengthened the controller.

  • Our bet: 5c is not the final price, but minorities have limited leverage.

  • Unfortunately for Toubani and Prospect, the “strategic investor” looks a lot more like a shark on the register now.
